Summary: Fantastic machine that makes fantastic espresso
Comment: I'm writing this review mainly because I feel like this product is underrated on average by the earlier reviewers -- in my opinion, this is definitely a five-star machine.

Got mine for ~$70 on eBay (sorry Amazon). I've had it for around a month now, and it has already more than paid for itself (I drink quite a bit). Pulling 6-10 shots a day, on average, this machine hasn't let me down once. As other reviewers have noted, the portafilter has a function that the most avid espresso connoisseurs might frown upon - the fake crema that is produced with every shot. In spite of this, you can still easily deduce whether or not your shot is good by the pull time.

One noteworthy point is that my machine doesn't seem to heat up automatically -- I turn on the steam wand for ~1 minute until it starts steaming (sputtering water into an empty frothing pitcher as it heats up), then pull the shot. If I don't do this, even a shot pulled 20 minutes after the machine has been turned on is cold. However, after doing this, my machine pulls hot shots even half an hour later. For the price, this point isn't worth deducting a star, as I don't consider it an inconvenience. I'd appreciate comments on this from other owners.

Another thing worth noting is that after pulling a shot, the machine doesn't create a solid "puck". I've read that this is because this machine doesn't have some sort of backflow pump (probably not the technical name), but I don't care about this either. I have no problem rinsing out the portafilter after every pull.

Overall, this machine is perfect for me. Someone said that you can pull a better shot with a $100 machine and a $300 grinder than with a $300 espresso machine and a $100 grinder, which I find to be a true statement.

You can't beat this 15-bar pump machine for the price. Enjoy. :)

Here's a video of a shot I pulled with this machine and a sub-$100 Capresso Infinity Burr Grinder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4P_BCY9VDk

Summary: Solid Unit, Good Espresso, Great Price.... So far so good!
Comment: I bought this machine for my girlfriend for Christmas. The unit is very solid from what I can tell, nice chrome outside with the top and bottom trays having a different metallic look to it (could be the infamous metallic finish that is discussed in other reviews, which apparently can bubble off. Some reviewers were worried that the internal parts might have this same metallic finish and it could contaminate the coffee but I highly doubt this as there would be no reason to use this finish on internal parts as it is purely asthetic and would serve no purpose on the inside).

The machine comes with the basics but the manual is definitely lacking. At the suggestion of another review I went and downloaded the manual for the Sunbeam Cafe Crema EM4800C espresso machine (supposedly the same model) and it is much better and I would recommend downloading it to anyone buying this machine http://www.sunbeam.com.au/Pages/Browse/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=1129

I gotta admit I was a little intimidated at first when I was going to use the machine, first time I had used one, but it was easier then I thought and the first espresso i made was pretty tasty with the second one being even better (I used espresso beans ground at the espresso setting from a local store, used the double filter with 2 scoops and a slight tamp to even it out). I also tried out the frothing attachment and, despite what other reviews have said, I was able to take cold milk and get it up to temp (between 140-160) and frothing, this took probably around 90 seconds or so and if I had used less milk probably would of been quicker. On a negative note, I was not that impressed with the cup warmer. I had the machine on for a good 10-15 min and it never seemed to get that hot but there are other ways to warm a cup.

Overall I am impressed with this machine and would recommend it to others as a nice low price espresso machine. Some people may not like that it's pressurized filter but for a beginner like myself and my GF I think it's a plus as I don't have to worry to much about having the exact grind/tamp. I cannot comment on the longevity of this item yet but I will follow-up this review as time passes.

Summary: Work well for a year
Comment: This machine worked well for a little more than a year, we did not use it much, then it, all of a sudden, starting making the pumping sound that it does for steam or froth whenever it was turned on and the dial at "o". It also started leaking water into the tray until the tray overflowed. I sent muntiple e-mails to Ariete without any response.

Summary: Well worth the money
Comment: My fiance and I bought this espresso maker almost two years ago and it still works well. I was spending about $3.50 a day for a coffee at a local coffee shop and since buying this and making my own we have more than paid for the espresso maker. I would reccommend this to anyone looking for a quality machine for under $200.

Summary: solid so far
Comment: so far after about a month it seems to deliver good pressure, though I am still looking for a good combo of beans/grind settings/water. The steamer is very good - it delivers lots of steady steam and doesn't seem to run out. OUt of the box there was a broken clip which is supposed to hold the water tank in place, but I was able to glue it back on and the other clip was holding the tank just fine anyways. So far I like it, it looks great, but I hope in the long run it outlasts my old briel. Only wished it also took coffee pods (maybe it does - I just don't want to experiment with it yet while it's so shiny and new!
