Summary: Awesome Coffee. A couple of suggestions for owners.
Comment: I've had the E8 for 9 months and continue to use it constantly through the day. It makes great coffee. Some have complained that the coffee isn't hot enough. One way to fix this is to steam milk and then add coffee to it. You can make the milk very hot with steam and this will give you a very toasty coffee to drink. Another way to fix this is to brew the coffee in smaller batches. If you want 8 oz, make two 4 oz cups. On the whole, I highly recommend this coffee machine. The self cleaning features are a huge bonus versus other machines I've tried (and cleaned daily...) - Bart

Summary: No wonder they chose the name Impressa it truly is Impressive
Comment: This is a machine for a museum of fine coffee makers. It is unreal how easy it is to use and how consistent it is in delivering some of the best espresso I have ever had.
Swiss designed U.S.A made, precision meets grit absolutely a fabulous mix. The inner workings just smooth and stable. From the grinder that just grinds and delivers quiet nicely. I have had many machine before this one mostly Semi-Automatics and this being my first Super-Automatic I will never go back and Jura has got a customer for life. You will not regret buying this machine and with a really good customer service it is a no brainer. You will be spending $300-400 on a Semi-Automatic just hold out and get this machine it is worth every penny.
The actual espresso will put Startbucks to shame. The "Crema" that it brings with every cup is just delicious and just phenomenally consistent. The self cleaning is fantastic and controls so easy to use. I love the customizable cup size which lets you dispense up to 16Oz of coffee and at different strength levels. My wife loves Americanos and I love short hard shots. We both get our fix in minutes in the morning before work and at nights. Guests that have observed it are raging with envy :). The only thing I haven't mastered yet is the frother. I think the milk we get isn't really all that great for frothing. Overall an amazing buy and an amazing machine. After a few months going stronger than ever and it's even the refurbished model.

Comment: Update Dec 2008.

Another reviewer complained about the flow of coffee slowing down considerably. I also experienced this problem but it was easily resolved with a call to the very friendly tech support people who actualy keep extended hours. With machine on, remove the drawer. Take a dry paper towel and reach in and up behind what looks like a guillotine blade (but it is not sharp!). You will feel a round disc that faces the ground and probably has coffe grinds on it. Just wipe this down once a week and things will perform flawlessly.

I recently received my refurb E8 and could not be more impressed.

The unit arrived within 48 hours of order from Amazon reseller Kitchen Kapers. Other than the box and a sticker on the back, this appeared to be a new unit in every way. I was concerened when I saw another reviewer received a machine with 3,000 cups on the odometer. Mine had 120 cups under its belt which, to me, is barely broken in.

The unit itself looks great. Set-up was fairly easy and the controls and menus are well laid out.

For years, I have loved drinking coffee in Europe but was never a big fan of any coffee in the USA. I suddenly feel like I am back overseas. I loaded up the C8 with some illy coffee beans and the results are spectacular. I am not into all the foofy lattes, capacinos, etc., so can not really speak to those. However, for an absolutely fantastic cup of crema this is the unit to buy. Even at full strenght, no bitterness at all.

This unit willl look great in your kitchen, seems to be built to commercial quality, and most important makes a superb cup of coffee. I would not hesitate to pick up a refurb. The refurbs come direct from Jura-Capresso and they seem to do a great job.

Summary: the machine that changed my latte life
Comment: This is the 3rd espresso machine that I've had and my first fully automatic. Prior to this purchase, I believed that fully automatics were financially out of my reach. The E8 grinds, tamps, brews the exact amount of espresso that I want using the perfect pressure and a gauge to set the number of ounces I want to brew, lightly cleans itself with daily use, and tells me when I need to add water or dispose of used espresso pucks. Prior to the E8, I spent a good deal of time grinding (with a separate appliance) and cleaning my equipment with every use. Now my espresso/lattes are brewed quickly, perfectly and effortlessly. It's nice to also be able to brew a quick cup of tea via the steamer. I would recommend this machine to anyone who is a serious espresso drinker and/or home barista.

Summary: Perfect Brew
Comment: Makes a perfect cup of espresso. Wonderful Americano. Easy to use, "must" read instructions first. Made the "big" mistake of not installing the water filter, in less then a month needed to decalcify the machine but decalcifying tablets were not included with it. If you have hard water you must keep the machine maintained well. A little time invested in this is well worth it.
With what was spent at Starbucks this machine will pay for itself in less than 6 months.

Editorial Reviews:

Capresso's Impressa E8 is equipped with all the necessary high-tech features for brewing superb espresso, cappuccino, lattes and long crema coffees in just 60 seconds. The powerful 1450-watt, 18-bar power pump has a ThermoBlock heating system that promises fast, continuous operation at home or business. The easy-to-read LED display (in seven languages) indicates brew strength from mild to normal to strong, and even displays the cup size while the machine is brewing as well as keeping count of how many drinks you have previously made. You can even select whether you want a standard or robust aroma. To use, select whether or not you want one cup or two then select the size of cup you have from one ounce to eight ounces (for two cups, the machine automatically makes double your selected one cup capacity). Beverages are dispensed in either one or both of the height-adjustable, dual coffee spouts. Next, a commercial-grade, solid steel, conical burr grinder (with six fineness settings) grinds from 5 to 15 grams of coffee (there is a separate funnel for already-ground, decaf or flavored coffees). The 8-oz. bean container lets you grind up to 30 portions before refilling it. A two-step pre-infusion cycle moistens and conditions the grounds for maximum flavor and a perfect crema topping. The patented Clearyl water filtration system gives you clean, great tasting coffee every time with
